(I invite anyone who can explain this Lord/Lee to add that information here.) This history goes on to explain that Matthew Griswold's second wife was Mary Lee, widow of Lieut. Thomas Lee who died 24 Oct 1724, at age 68. She was the daughter of Mary DeWolf. Matthew was the son of Matthew Griswold and Anna Wolco; he was born in East Saybrook (Lyme), CT, and married Phoebe Hyde. She was the daughter of Samuel and Jane (Lord) Hyde, born Jan 1663, and granddaughter of the first William Hyde. William Hyde, the founder of the Hyde family in America, appears first at Hartford, Conn. 1636, as one of the original selers and his name is inscribed on the Founders Monument, Old Center Churchyard. Removed to Saybrook, Conn. Norwich, Conn., was seled in 1660 and his name was among the original proprietors.
