    • Sir Thomas Hamilton son of Robert Hamilton, 3rd son of George Hamilton, (who may have been accused of taking part in the murder of Darnley) Died 1672, he succeeded to Preston and Fingalgon by the entail of 1644 and became representative of the family on the death of his cousin Robert Hamilton of Sauchgonbarne in 1649.
      He was married first in 1637 to Margaret Murray who died childless and second to Anne daughter of Sir James Hamilton. He had two sons, William and Robert and a daughter named Janet.
      He married a third time to Rachel daughter of Robert Burnet, Lord Cramond and widow of Sir Thomas Nicholson of Cockburnspath. This is taken from the Heraldry of the Hamiltons, by Johnston 1909.
