    • Stanley was born in Silver Street but moved aged 5 to 7 The Approach, Rayleigh. He aended Love Lane School from 5 - 14. On leaving school he worked for the local butcher as a delivery boy on 'a bike'. He worked for Perry's, Massachusetts in Ford dealer at Kent Elm's corner, Eastwood. He joined the Territorials possibly in 1938 and at the outbreak of war was already mobilised, being at summer camp with his unit which was the start of 6 years war service. This information came from his brother Bert, who unfortunately never had leave at the same time as Stan and so never saw him during those 6 years.
