    • DEA: reported in the 'Barrie Examiner' 20 SEP 1894 p1/c5. "WHITEBREAD -Suddenly, in Barrie, on Wednesday, Sept. 12th, George Whitebread, Principal ofthe West Ward School, aged 60 years." Photocopy in his file.
      Obituary: 'Barrie Examiner' 20 SEP 1894 p1/c3. "DEATH OF MR. GEO. WHITEBREAD/ Very suddenly last Wednesday evening death called away Mr. George Whitebread,Principal of the West Ward Public School, who for half a century has beenwell-known in Barrie and surrounding district. He and Mrs. Whitebread had
      spent the evening at the house of a neighbour and had returned home about 10o'clock. Soon after he retired he had a spell of coughing, and it was supposedthat he burst a blood vessel for in fifteen minutes, or less
      The deceased was born in Kent County, England, sixty years ago. At the ageof seven he came with other members of the family to Canada, and after a yearin Toronto came to Barrie. While young he worked at the carriage and waggonbusiness with his father and brother, but soon gave up that occupation andbecame a school teacher. For the last thirty years he has followed thiscalling and taught successfully at Big Bay Point, Stroud, Allandale and Barrie.
      Mr. Whitebread leaves a widow and five children to mourn their loss. Of thefirst family there are : John of Kingston; Edward of Allandale; and Mrs. Marshof Mount Pleasant, Mich. Of the second are: Harley and Annie. He aended theCollier street Methodist church.
      The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon to the Union Cemetery. TheS.O.E. of which he was a member, aended in a body and took part in theceremony; there was also a long procession of school children who went beforethe hearse. In the absence of his pastor, Rev. W.R. McIntosh of Allandaleconducted the service at the house."
